WEEKLY REPORT - TEACHING PRACTICE (SEMESTER 4) 🏫

                     WEEKLY REPORT

WEEK 1 (30/12/2024-03/01/2025)

During the second phase of my School Internship Program, I was assigned to teach Class 8 students at Government Model HSS, Venganoor. I was entrusted with the task of teaching the last unit of the English textbook, "Share and Care," which provided an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into the themes of empathy, compassion, and human connection.

This phase of my teaching practice was again under the guidance of Rajalekshmi Ma'am, whose mentorship has been invaluable in shaping my teaching style and approach. As I returned to the school, I was warmly welcomed by my students in Class 8A, who recognized me as their English teacher once again. This created a comfortable and familiar environment for me, and it felt encouraging to see the students eager and ready for new lessons.

In the first week, I successfully introduced the first lesson from the unit, "The School for Sympathy" by E.V. Lucas. The story, which revolves around the themes of sympathy and human understanding, gave me an opportunity to engage the students in discussions about emotions, empathy, and the importance of understanding others. Over the course of the week, I continued to guide the students through the lesson, helping them analyze the key elements of the story while encouraging them to express their thoughts and reflections.

In addition to teaching, I was also assigned substitution duties and noon meal duties. Although these tasks were additional responsibilities, I embraced them as part of my commitment to the overall well-being of the students. The substitution duties allowed me to interact with other classes, while the noon meal duty gave me a chance to ensure that the students were well-fed and comfortable during their break time.

Despite these additional duties, I remained dedicated to delivering quality instruction and creating a meaningful learning experience for my students. My time at Government Model HSS Venganoor has been a blend of teaching, learning, and contributing to the school community in different ways, and I look forward to the continued growth and development of my teaching skills in the coming weeks.

WEEK 2 (06/01/2025-10/01/2025)

In the second week of my internship, I successfully completed the first lesson, "The School for Sympathy" by E.V. Lucas. The lesson went smoothly and I could see the students starting to connect with the deeper messages of empathy and understanding in the text. Also conducted diagnostic test for the students.

Alongside my teaching responsibilities, I was still assigned substitution duties and noon meal duties. These additional tasks were part of my daily routine, but I embraced them as opportunities to interact with other students and help with their needs outside of the classroom. I made sure to stay focused on delivering quality instruction to my own class, ensuring that each lesson was engaging and effective.

Additionally, I had some free hours during the week, which gave me the chance to prepare for upcoming lessons, revise teaching strategies, and catch up on any pending tasks. This time allowed me to stay organized and maintain the momentum of my teaching practice, ensuring that I was fully prepared for the next lessons and any unforeseen challenges.

Overall, the second week was productive and fulfilling, balancing my teaching responsibilities with other duties and personal preparation time. It was a good opportunity to refine my skills and stay committed to providing the best educational experience for my students.

WEEK 3 (13/01/2025-17/01/2025)

In the third week of my internship, I introduced the next chapter, "The Merchant of Venice," to my Class 8 students. This was an exciting shift, as the play is rich with themes of justice, mercy, and the complexities of human nature. I aimed to make the students understand the core elements of the play while encouraging them to think critically about the characters and their motivations.

In the midst of my teaching responsibilities, the school celebrated its Annual Day on January 16th. The inaugural function and cultural programs brought an air of excitement and joy to the school. The event was filled with vibrant performances and a sense of community, making the day both fun-filled and beautiful.

As usual, I was assigned substitution duties and noon meal duties, but I handled these additional tasks with dedication, ensuring that I continued to support the students in every way possible. The free hours I had were helpful in balancing my workload—providing me with the time to prepare for upcoming classes, refine my teaching methods, and catch up on any pending tasks.

Overall, the third week was a blend of teaching, celebration, and continued responsibility. I remained committed to delivering quality instruction while embracing the vibrant school atmosphere during the Annual Day celebrations. This experience allowed me to not only focus on academic instruction but also be part of the larger school community, contributing to both the students' education and their extracurricular experiences.

WEEK 4 (20/01/2025-24/01/2025)

In the fourth week of my internship, I continued guiding my students through "The Merchant of Venice."

Along with my teaching duties, I continued to take on substitution and noon meal duties. Although these responsibilities were demanding, they helped me maintain a sense of connection with the entire school community. I made sure that, despite the extra duties, I remained focused on delivering quality instruction to my students in Class 8A.

The free hours I had during the week were quite useful, providing me with the time to prepare for upcoming lessons and catch up on any pending tasks. These hours allowed me to stay organized and keep up with the lesson plans while making sure I was prepared for anything that might come up during the week.

Overall, the week went smoothly. I was able to continue with my teaching, stay on top of my additional responsibilities, and use my free time wisely for preparation and planning. The experience helped me balance my academic duties with the other aspects of the school environment, ensuring a productive and fulfilling week.

WEEK 5 (27/01/2025-31/01/2025)

In the fifth week of my internship, I continued guiding my students through "The Merchant of Venice." By this stage, the students were becoming more familiar with the plot and the key characters.

This week was also significant because my option teacher came to observe my teaching. After the class, I received valuable feedback that helped me reflect on my teaching methods and identify areas for improvement.  It was an important moment in my teaching practice, as it allowed me to refine my approach and continue growing as an educator.

In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I continued with substitution and noon meal duties, balancing these tasks alongside my lessons. While these duties required extra time and attention, I remained committed to providing quality instruction to my students, ensuring that their learning experience was not compromised.

The free hours I had during the week allowed me to prepare for upcoming lessons, organize my materials, and complete any pending tasks. These moments of preparation were essential in helping me stay on track and maintain the smooth flow of my teaching schedule.

Overall, the week went smoothly. I was able to continue teaching "The Merchant of Venice" effectively, receive valuable feedback from my option teacher, and manage my additional duties.

WEEK 6 (03/02/2025-07/02/2025)

In the sixth week of my internship, I successfully completed the chapter "The Merchant of Venice" with my Class 8 students, ensuring that they understood the key themes, characters, and moral dilemmas presented in the play.

After finishing the play, I moved on to the next chapter, which was the poem "My Grandmother's House." I also introduced the poetic device personification using the Advance Organizer Model.

Additionally, I introduced the last chapter of the unit, "The Solitude."

Along with my teaching responsibilities, I continued with substitution duties and noon meal duties, ensuring that I contributed to the well-being of the school community. Despite these extra tasks, I remained committed to delivering quality lessons and making sure my students had the best learning experience.

The free hours I had during the week allowed me to catch up on preparation, finalize lesson plans, and complete any pending tasks. These moments of preparation were essential in maintaining the smooth flow of my teaching and ensuring I was well-prepared for the next lesson.

Overall, the sixth week went smoothly. I was able to complete the chapter on "The Merchant of Venice," teach the poem "My Grandmother's House," introduce poetic devices, and begin the final chapter.

WEEK 7 (10/02/2025-12/02/2025)

In the seventh week of my internship, I successfully completed the final chapter, "The Solitude," with my Class 8 students. This chapter provided an opportunity for deep reflection, and I encouraged the students to connect with the themes of solitude, personal growth, and self-reflection. The students responded well to the discussions, and I was pleased with how they engaged with the text and its deeper meanings.

I also introduced two important concepts this week: question tags and affixes. To teach these concepts, I used the Direct Instruction Model and the Concept Attainment Model. The Direct Instruction Model allowed me to present the concepts clearly and systematically, while the Concept Attainment Model encouraged the students to actively discover the rules and patterns of question tags and affixes through examples. Both models proved effective in helping students grasp these new language concepts. Also conducted achievement test for the students

Along with my teaching duties, I continued with substitution and noon meal duties, which kept me engaged in the overall school environment. Despite these additional responsibilities, I remained committed to delivering quality lessons and supporting my students' learning.

I was also fortunate to have free hours during the week, which provided me with the time to prepare for my classes, refine my teaching strategies, and catch up on any pending tasks. This time of preparation was crucial in maintaining an organized and well-structured teaching schedule.

The seventh week marked the end of my second-phase teaching practice. At the end of the week, I received the evaluation sheet from my guide, which gave me a sense of accomplishment and a clear understanding of my progress during the internship. Saying farewell to my students was an emotional moment, as I had built a meaningful connection with them over the weeks. This teaching phase provided me with invaluable experience, and it is a journey I will always cherish as an important milestone in my life as an educator.

The entire experience has been a great learning opportunity, and I feel more confident in my teaching abilities, having gained both practical knowledge and personal growth. I look forward to applying everything I have learned as I continue my journey toward becoming a well-rounded and effective teacher.
